Fri 21 Jul 2023 Jill Warren

Year 5 and 6 wowed us with their singing, dancing and acting in their performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the end of the summer term. Congratulations to everyone involved, and a big thank you to Mrs Taylor and Mrs Meehan for directing, and to all the staff who helped with the props and set building. Well done everyone!

The children got to meet High Sheriff Theresa today. She stayed all morning and shared what her role is and how she got chosen. The children were very inquisitive and asked lots of interesting questions.

  • South Peak Sports

    Sun 18 Jun 2023

Well done to the group of children who gave up their time on Thursday evening to take part in the South Peak Sports at Darley Dale. They worked very hard and enjoyed taking part, despite the heat. Also, a huge thank you to Mr Rourke, Mrs Cooke and Mrs Bradbury who helped organise and supervised the event.

  • Coronation Celebrations with the Infants

Thu 11 May 2023 Isabel Webb

On Friday 5th May,  in well-timed break between showers, the children at Wirksworth Junior and Infant schools came together in red, white and blue to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Sue and Ian Todd from St. Mary’s Church led an assembly on community service, supporting each other and what the King’s focus for the coronation weekend was. The children brought along coins and placed them on flags in the playground, which were collected and donated to the local charity Jigsaw food bank for those in need within our community.

For the majority of us, this was the first coronation we had witnessed, but in attendance we had a special guest, Sue Todd’s Mum, Marie, who was 9 years old at King George’s coronation in 1937 and had also seen Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953.

These are the days that memories are made, and like Marie, the children at Wirksworth’s schools will be able to look back fondly about coming together as primary children to celebrate the coronation of a new King of the United Kingdom and the 14 Commonwealth realms.

  • Easter Challenges 2023

Mon 17 Apr 2023 Jill Warren

Our Easter Challenges for this year was another fabulous event, in spite of the rainy weather we still got to parade our bonnets, test our cars and show off our eggs in a scene - new for 2023. It was a very busy morning and we only just finished in time for dinner - Mrs Webb even lost her voice from all the shouting and excitement! Well done to all those that took part and of course to the winners.

  • Y5/6 Residential Trip to White Hall

Wed 08 Mar 2023 Jill Warren

From Monday 6th - Wednesday 8th March our intrepid adventurers from Year 5 and 6 went off to White Hall in the Peak District for 2 days of outdoor activities.

They got to try out stream scrambling, climbing, caving, low ropes, and have a go on the zip wire and leap of faith. The children all did brilliantly, challenging themselves and learning to take risks safely. They demonstrated resilience and perseverance, and worked well in teams, supporting each other.

A huge thanks goes to all the staff at White Hall, and to those teachers and volunteers who accompanied the children on the trip. We all had a brilliant time!

  • E-safety sessions

    Sat 04 Mar 2023

Thank you to all the parents that reviewed the E-safety policy and left comments. The parents that responded said it was vey comprehensive and others felt it was very long. These thoughts have used to update the policy which can be found on the school website along with the child friendly one too, which is a lot shorter.

Within the survey, there was also requests for a professional to lead sessions on how to keep your child safe online. Because of this wish, the school has purchased an information sharing workshop from Derbyshire County Councils E-safety expert Traci Good. In this session, she will be sharing the latest apps, as well as, knowing what to do if your child has seen something upsetting online or they have shared or posted something they shouldn't have.

There will be two opportunities to take part in these sessions.

    One on Monday April 24th (1pm – 2pm) and the other on Wednesday April 26th (6pm – 7pm).

If you would like to come along please sign up using the following link at the end of this message.

If you would like to be part of this but the time is inconvenient, please use the link below to share this with us. If there is enough interest we maybe able to record this for you and share if afterwards.
