Easter Challenges April 2025
Wed 23 Apr 2025A few photos from our Easter challenges this morning - we had a great time, and some of the furthest distances travelled that we have ever seen! Well done to Erin and Arlo’s Batmobile, which went 21.92 metres, Hayden’s mobile (18.2 metres) and Ruby’s Easter Eggspress (15 metres)! Also, huge congratulations to the children who won the egg in a scene and bonnet competitions, and to everyone who gave up their time to make something at home. The children of WJS are very creative! Happy Easter

Science Competition Winners
Wed 02 Apr 2025Some of the children from Knight class attended a science competition at Anthony Gell this morning. They displayed models of a volcanic island and the creatures that inhabited it. The models had been made over several weeks in nurture with many children adding their creative touches. The children were able to articulate the features of the island and the adaptations their creatures had made to be able to live there successfully. While the judging was taking place, they got to spend time in a science lab and engage in several experiments. We had a wonderful time and were rewarded with first place in the competition for lower KS2 schools. We are very proud of all the children who contributed to this project.

Cross Country Running Champs
Sun 02 Feb 2025I would like to express how proud I am of the cross-country runners who have worked incredibly hard to improve their skills since the beginning of November. Every Tuesday after school, we practiced running around the playground and field, learning the differences between walking, jogging, running, and sprinting. We put this knowledge into practice last week at Whitworth Park.
Everyone gave their best effort, especially the Year 3/4 girls who achieved remarkable success. Erin who came 17th and Betsie who secured first place out of approximately 70 children from across the county. I truly enjoyed the experience, and I know the children did as well.

Presentation at the infant school
Thu 19 Dec 2024On Tuesday, three year 3 pupils went to the infants to meet Mrs Poyser for a special presentation. They had each sent a photo every month of nature and how it changes. Mrs Poyser had then printed these off and framed the final picture..
It was a lovely event celebrating how our environment changes through the seasons. -

Planting trees with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust
Wed 30 Oct 2024Y5/6 have been out in the grounds with Mr Wisner taking part in their forest schools. This month, George from the Derbyshire from the Wildlife Trust came along to support the children, where they got to plant lots of acorns and a few tree saplings. This is a great opportunity to support children’s climate anxiety and take active steps to improve the planet we live in.
