Gardening Club win RHS Award
Fri 10 Dec 2021Congratulations to Mrs Varney's Gardening Club, who have achieved their RHS Level 1 School Gardening Club award. We had to submit plans for the garden and explain why we thought gardening was important for the children. The club are now working towards Level 2, where we need to demonstrate how the children are actively involved in the care of the garden and what they have learning from their work.

UK Parliament Week
Mon 08 Nov 2021UK Parliament Week was held in school from 2nd - 5th November, and we used this time to elect our school council members. They are currently asking their classes what they would like to improve in school and will use these views to shape action plans which each class will work on and feedback on progress in the spring and summer terms. UK Parliament Week gave the children the opportunity to learn about what parliament is, and debate questions such as “Should robots teach in school?” The children demonstrated lots of respect for other people’s opinions and enjoyed lively discussions.

WJS achieves PSQM accreditation
Mon 04 Oct 2021We are really pleased to announce that the school has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark for 2021.
We will hold this award for three years and it shows that our school has been judged to demonstrate effective leadership of science, and high-quality planning and delivery of science at the school.
We are really proud of this award as it has been a whole school effort, from the leadership by Miss Booth, to the pupil science ambassadors in school, to you at home completing the science lessons/ challenges during remote learning.
Thanks for supporting us with this award and please do share that at Wirksworth Junior School we promote creative thinking through science.
