Hamilton Class Year 4/5

Mrs Potter and Mrs Cooke

English - Talk for Writing

We use talk for writing in English to teach writing, using various fiction and non-fiction texts. This process goes through several stages, enabling children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic orally, before reading and analysing it, and then writing their own version.

English - Reading

We use VIPERS in reading lessons and our current book is The Boy in the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf.

Our reading for pleasure book this half term is The Land of Roar by Jenny Mclachlan

Please use this document when you read with your children at home.

Maths

We use the NCETM for Maths and teach year 4 and 5 separately, so they will be completing different units of work as shown below.

Project - Does migration always lead to conflict?

This half term our topic is History and we are focusing on Stone Age to Iron Age Britain, Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.

Science

In Science, our topic is Properties of Materials and Changes of State and our big question is how does the temperature of tea affect how long it takes for a sugar cube to dissolve?
