Nurture

At Wirksworth Junior School we provide an opportunity for children to experience a supportive programme that helps develop their early learning skills.

What is Nurture Group?

The group can help the development of confidence, self-esteem and social skills in a secure, caring environment. It is made up of eight to ten children. Our wonderful  teaching assistant Mrs Varney runs our nurture group. During their time at nurture group, the children will be given opportunities to improve and practice many skills through structured play enabling them to access the curriculum more fully.

How will my child benefit?

Children who have experienced nurture groups tend to feel more confident and are able to participate more fully in their classroom. Parents have noticed that their children are happier and have improved concentration at school and at home.

Why has my child been chosen?

We are all individual learners. Some skills we pick up quicker than others and for this reason a wide variety of children benefit from being included in the Nurture Group.

What will my child miss?

The groups at Wirksworth Junior School run in the afternoons so literacy and numeracy lessons are unaffected.
