Modern British Values

Every year we hold pupil elections to vote in our school council. This year is no different and we have elected 8 new school councillors. After surveying pupils, we have decided we would like to improve the toilets and we will discuss this with the governors in the spring term 2023.

Every year we learn about UK Parliament Week.  In November 2020 we gave children and parents the opportunity to debate via our Class Dojo pages on issues such as:

  • Should supermarkets ban plastic bags?
  • Should you helmets be made legal whilst cycling?

These and other questions were put to the school community so we could learn how to hold a healthy debate and understand what it was like to work in Parliament.

Democracy

In Spring term 2023, we are learning about democracy in our assemblies. Please click on the link below to see one of the assemblies we took part in.

Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Others.

The whole school made visits to the Open Centre at Derby in 2019 and 2022 to learn about different faiths, individual liberty and the mutual respect for others.  Visits were made to the Mosque, Mandir and Gurdwara, and children learnt how these faiths were similar in some ways and how they differed in others.  All the children showed lots of respect for the one another and learnt lots about the different religions within our community in Derbyshire.

Our Modern British Values Audit

We are currently auditing the coverage of British Values taught across our Guerrilla Curriculum. Once this has been completed this will be added to the website along with how we cover diversity within our curriculum.
