Derbyshire Wildlife Trust Visit
Thanks to the Wildlife Trust who came to work with our Y5 children yesterday. This is a list of some of the jobs they did!

pruned back some of the overhanging branches

raked up fallen leaves and cut grass

established a compost bin for leaves and grass
-
made a habitat pile at the back of the pond for brash and vegetation from the pond
-
removed 3/4 of the flag iris roots creating open water for dipping
-
removed as much brown vegetation from the pond as possible
-
made a small habitat pile near the existing mini-beast palette
-
drew decorated letters spelling WIRKSWORTH JUNIOR on individual rounds of wood (ready to be attached to the fence next week)

cleaned moss from the flagstones

pulled out/chopped off encroaching ivy
-
pulled any nettles and brambles we found
-
did a little pond dipping – we found two frogs, a dragonfly nymph and a few beetles and snails
