Dear Parents/Carers,

 

Changing the time of the school day

 

In consultation with our feeder infant schools we have decided to change the timing of our school day.

 

From September, the school day will finish at 3:25pm not at 3:35pm as it is now. A 3:25pm finish will bring us more in line with other schools in our cluster group. It will also fit in better with the infant schools who are going to be finishing at 3:15pm.

 

Our school day will continue to start at 8:55 am. Parents and carers are welcome to drop their children off, on the playground or at the bottom of the drive at 8:40am. Please do not drop your children off earlier than this as there will be no supervision on the playground until 8:40 am. If you wish your child to attend our free breakfast club they may be dropped off after 8:30am.

 

Pupils will not miss out on learning time due to these changes, as we are going to shorten our dinner hour by ten minutes. Currently we have 1 hour 10 minutes for lunchtime but under our new arrangements this will be shortened by 10 minutes. One hour is plenty of time for all our children to have their dinner and to have some outdoor play.

 

In order to improve our safety procedures, we are also asking that from September parents/carers of Year 3 and 4 pupils collect their children from the playground. Class teachers will bring the classes out to the playground and then dismiss the children to their parents. Year 5 and 6 children will still be able to continue with our current arrangement of walking down the drive on their own.

 

Ending the school day earlier will not impact upon the running of AM/PM Club. Charges for these sessions will not be increased as a result of the day finishing earlier.
